View of Oude Zijds Kolk (trans. "Old Side") with old Dutch canal houses and the "Oude Kerk" ("Old Church"). This is in one of the oldest parts of the city of Amsterdam, in the harbour district, built in the years 1488 - 1544.
Later people started calling it in short the Schreierstoren. There is a myth that the tower was the place where sailor's left their wives to set sail, and that their wives were weeping here to say goodbye. It is an incorrect (but romantic...) translation of "Schreiers Toren" into "Weeper's Tower".
